In 2023 SAWC's non-residential services expanded to include Shelter Diversion. Shelter Diversion is a light touch and rapid assistance to help those experiencing homelessness find alternative housing solutions rather than entering the homeless response system. SAWC employs a Diversion and Resource Coordinator to meet individuals at the front door to seek these alternative solutions, including supporting relocation to family/friends or providing move in costs for rapid housing approvals.

 

SAWC's Diversion program aligns with Michigan State Housing Development Authority's (MSHDA) best practices and policies.  Each diverted client is assisted with a personal plan created to cater to their specific needs. We provide a solid foundation to help these individuals obtain rapid housing and also maintain stability.
